Brandon Watson, 36, a 12-year veteran of the force, is part of the Barberton SWAT team which responded to a New Franklin home on Menlo Court.
Watson, an army veteran and father of four, was shot in both legs and underwent surgery on Friday, Feb. 8 to repair the damage.
The suspect who shot Watson, Charles Cook, was shot and killed by police.
Officials said the incident began when New Franklin.
Police were called to a home at 5421 Menlo Court around 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a domestic violence incident.
Police observed physical abuse on the woman in the home, however when they told the man he was going to be arrested he ran upstairs and barricaded himself in a bedroom.
The suspect refused to come out of the room. Barberton police stated that at 3 a.m. Friday he fired a round through the door, striking the Barberton officer.
Swat Team officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
The man killed was Charles (Charlie) L. Cook, who had a lengthy criminal history, including menacing and stalking and violating a protection order.
