First Alert: Severe weather sweeps through Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A cold front will move southeast across our area Wednesday evening. A ridge of high pressure will build southeast across the region on Thursday. High pressure will be centered over the local area Friday night. Below average temperatures will move in for the end of the week and the weekend.

From Meteorologist Samantha Roberts:

Short Term Forecast:

Good afternoon! After a beautiful morning, clouds are moving in from the west. These are associated with a big thunderstorm complex moving through the Midwest. We will be tracking the evolution of this feature through the afternoon and into the evening.

The big question remains: Will this complex of storms move into northern Ohio? High resolution guidance suggests that most of this feature will dive southeast toward Cincinnati. (Great news!) However, there’s quite a cumulus field developing out there this afternoon. Some of those cumulus clouds may turn into scattered thunderstorms later today.

We do not expect widespread severe weather, but some thunderstorms may produce brief heavy rain and gusty winds. Keep the umbrella close.

We will keep a chance of hit or miss thunderstorms in the forecast overnight as well.

Otherwise, things will stay very sticky through tonight and into tomorrow. Humidity relief will finally arrive by Thursday.

The Rest of the Week:

We’ll begin the day Wednesday on a warm and stuffy note. It will be cloudy, and we could see a few spotty showers Wednesday morning. A little patchy fog would not surprise me. Any early-morning fog will lift by mid-morning, giving way to partly sunny skies. More pronounced clearing will occur in the afternoon.

Wednesday will feature another hot and humid afternoon. Highs will climb into the mid 80s.

Humidity levels will finally drop by Thursday. It will be so much more pleasant by the end of the work week. Check out these cooler numbers.

Thursday’s high: 74° Friday’s high: 72° Saturday’s high: 76° Sunday’s high: 80°

I do have a chance of a few isolated storms in the forecast on Thursday and Friday. Not everyone will see rain.

We’ll be mostly sunny, dry, and gorgeous for the weekend.
