Emmy nominated photographer Michael K. Dakota joined Cleveland 19 News in March of 2018 after 30 years as a still photographer in the newspaper industry.

He was born and raised in Barberton, Ohio.

Dakota left the state after graduating from Kent State University in 1989.

Dakota has worked as a photojournalist in Louisiana, Kansas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Dakota has photographed alligator hunters in the bayou, been chased by bison in Kansas, flown in a KC-135 Stratotanker while refueling the Air Force Thunderbirds and has had the opportunity to photograph every American President since Ronald Reagan.

In his free time Dakota loves to visit lighthouses.

To date he has visited 154 lighthouses in the United States and Canada. He hopes to one day publish a picture book of the sentinels he has photographed.
